Work with Contrarian Publishing!

Spring 2026 Internships

Contrarian Publishing is seeking two interns to support our team during the Spring semester. While this internship is remote, we do have a preference for those in the NYC area. This is an unpaid internship in exchange for academic credit only.

Gain first-hand experience working in the publishing space. Learn how a book is made from start to finish and gain the skills necessary to thrive in a variety of entry-level publishing roles. The ideal candidate is hardworking, willing to learn, proficient in Microsoft Office, detail-oriented, and has a strong interest in a career in publishing. Our interns assist in all aspects of running a small publisher, but one internship will have a stronger editorial focus and the other will have a stronger marketing and publicity focus. This is not the ideal internship for those whose primary goal is to be an author.

Core Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Supporting the staff in reading and evaluating submissions and manuscripts

  • Copy editing, proofreading, fact-checking, checking corrections to, and otherwise preparing manuscripts

  • Copy editing and proofreading Marketing & Publicity materials

  • Researching for various projects, including finding comp titles or authors

  • Supporting the staff in social media content creation and community management

  • Researching for various projects, including marketing and publicity campaigns

  • Building media lists and researching editorial contacts

  • Identifying media opportunities for print, digital, and broadcast

  • Being up-to-date on trending content especially on Instagram and Threads and be able to quickly develop content to match

  • Assisting with general administrative tasks

Interns are expected to be:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and eligible to receive academic credit for internship. Please do not apply unless you meet this requirement.

  • Able to work 15-20 hrs/wk

  • Majoring in a related field

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to execute multiple projects simultaneously in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment

  • Exceptional written and verbal communicators

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, G Suite, etc. Familiarity with Adobe CC (Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat) is a plus.
